Harpsichord after Christian Zell 1728, double-manual

Christian Zell was probably a pupil of Michael Mietke, at least his instruments are very similar in construction to those of Mietke, even if they differ in detail. Zell became a citizen of Hamburg in 1722. By marrying the widow of his deceased Hamburg colleague Carl Conrad Fleischer, he took over his workshop and continued to run it successfully. Only three instruments by Zell have survived, but they suffice to give an impression of his superior building skills.
